3 days in New York

March 19-21

During our DC visit, we took Amtrak up to NYC to see some family- aunt Anna, uncle Filip, and cousin Kamila. Despite our world trip, Dean had never seen NYC and I had only been there once before in 7th grade. It was time for another visit.

While it was cold in DC, it was 10 times colder in the NY. The wind off the water was brutal and we really froze after 6 pm. However, we braved it enough to see Times Square. In the Cup of Noodles ad in the picture, the cup spewed out really steam. It was pretty cool.

We crashed with the Pagowskis who have a nice flat near the park. The first night there was a party for the famous Latvian Ntional Opera director who was in town. We met all sort of characters and the party only stopped when we finally invisted that we really needed to do touristy things in the morning and couldn't stay up any longer.

Top on Dean's agenda was a visit to some famous deli where they serve very large (and expensive sandwiches). I think it was around $20 but look at all that meat!

We also walked through the park and took in some museums.

And to do the ultimate in low budget, we took the free ferry across to see the statue and then turned around immediately after. All in all, it was a good short trip.
